Adding Your Scanner (Creating a Profile)
Before you can start scanning documents, you need to set up a scanner profile. A profile saves the connection to your scanner along with important settings such as resolution, color mode, and page size. This makes it easy to reuse the same configuration without adjusting options every time you scan.
To create a new profile:
- Click the Profiles button on the toolbar.
- In the Profiles window, select New to add a profile.
The Profile Settings window will appear. Here you can give your profile a name and connect it to your scanner.
- Type a Display name that helps you recognize this scanner or configuration.
- Click Choose device and select your scanner from the list of available devices.
Once your scanner is selected, you can adjust scanning preferences:
- Choose the Paper source (glass or feeder).
- Set the Page size (e.g., Letter, A4).
- Select the Resolution and Color mode.
- Adjust Brightness and Contrast if needed.
When you are satisfied with the settings, click OK to save the profile. The new profile will now appear in the list and can be selected anytime you want to scan with these settings.
Note: If your scanner does not show up in the device list, try switching between WIA Driver, TWAIN Driver, and <stro
Scanner Profile Settings
Each profile stores the configuration for your scanner so you don’t have to adjust settings every time. Once a profile is created, you can quickly switch between different setups — for example, one for high-resolution color scans and another for quick black-and-white text scans.
When editing or creating a profile, the following options are available:
Profile name: Give the profile a descriptive name, such as the scanner model or a custom setup (e.g., “Brother – Color 300dpi”).
Device: Select the scanner you want to use. The driver type (WIA, TWAIN, or ESCL) will be shown with the device.
Paper source: Choose where pages are scanned from, such as the flatbed glass or the automatic document feeder (if your scanner supports one).
Page size: Select the paper size, such as Letter (8.5 x 11 in) or A4.
Resolution: Set the scanning resolution in dpi (dots per inch). Higher dpi produces sharper images but larger file sizes. Common choices are:
100–200 dpi: draft or text-only documents
300 dpi: standard quality for most uses
600 dpi or higher: detailed images or archival scans
Bit depth: Choose the color mode:
Black & White (small file size)
Grayscale
24-bit Color (full color scans)
At the bottom of the window, click Scan to begin scanning with the selected settings.
Scan a Single Page
Scanning a single page is the simplest way to capture a document or image. This option is useful when you only need one sheet, such as an ID card, receipt, or letter.
Place the page on the scanner glass.
Select the scanner profile you want to use.
Click Scan to capture the page.
The scanned page will appear in the main window, where you can preview, rotate, or adjust it before saving.
Scan a Multi-Page Document
When scanning documents with several pages, you can capture all pages in one sequence so they appear together. This is most efficient if your scanner has an automatic document feeder (ADF).
Place the entire document into the feeder, or place each page on the glass one at a time.
Select the appropriate scanner profile.
Click Scan.
Each page is scanned in order and added to the workspace. You can reorder, rotate, or delete pages before saving them into a single file.
Batch Scan
The Batch Scan feature lets you automate scanning when you have many pages or documents to process. Instead of clicking Scan each time, you can configure the scan to run multiple times with fewer interruptions.
When you open Batch Scan, you will see these options:
Scan Configuration
Profile: Select the profile you want to use. This determines which scanner and settings (resolution, color mode, page size) will be applied.
Scan Options
Single scan: Captures just one scan using the selected profile.
Multiple scans (prompt between scans): After each scan, the program pauses and prompts you to insert the next set of pages. This is useful if you want to control each step.
Multiple scans (fixed delay between scans): Runs a sequence of scans automatically with a set pause between them. Ideal when loading documents by hand into a flatbed scanner.
Output Options
Load images into the app: Each scanned page appears in the workspace for further review or editing.
Save to a single file: All scanned pages are combined into one file (usually PDF).
Save to multiple files: Each scan is saved as its own file.
Click Start to begin the batch process. The app will carry out the scans according to the configuration you chose.
Scan Duplex (Double-Sided) Documents
Some scanners include a duplex feature, which allows both sides of each sheet to be scanned automatically. This is especially useful for booklets, reports, or any double-sided printouts.
Place the pages into the automatic document feeder (ADF), making sure the duplex option is enabled in your scanner profile.
Click Scan.
Both the front and back of each page will be captured in order.
If your scanner does not support duplex scanning, you can still capture both sides manually:
First scan one side of all pages.
Then flip the stack and scan the other side.
Use the workspace tools to reorder pages so they appear in the correct sequence.
Manage and Save Scan Output
After scanning, you can choose how to store the results depending on your needs. The app supports saving all pages together or exporting them individually.
Save as PDF: Combine all scanned pages into a single PDF file. This is the most common option for sharing or archiving documents.
Save as Images: Export pages as image files (JPEG, PNG, or TIFF). Each page is saved as a separate file.
Reorder Before Saving: Use the toolbar options to change the page order, rotate pages, or remove unwanted pages.
File Naming: You will be prompted to choose a file name and save location. For multiple pages saved as images, files are automatically numbered in sequence.
By choosing the right format and adjusting the page order, you can make sure your scanned documents are saved in the way that works best for you.

The Settings window provides options to customize the way PDF Doc Scanner behaves. These controls let you adjust the interface, define default actions, and fine-tune how the application handles scanned images.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Why doesn’t my scanner appear in the device list?
A: Try switching between WIA, TWAIN, and ESCL drivers. If it still doesn’t appear, install the latest driver from your scanner manufacturer’s website.
Q: My scans look too dark or too light. How can I fix this?
A: Open your profile settings and adjust the Brightness and Contrast sliders until the scanned images look right.
Q: The text in my scans is not searchable. What should I do?
A: Make sure you enable OCR (Optical Character Recognition) before saving. OCR converts the scanned image into searchable text inside the PDF.
Q: Can I scan directly into one PDF file?
A: Yes. After scanning multiple pages, choose Save PDF to combine all pages into a single document.
Q: Why are my files so large?
A: Large file sizes are often caused by high resolution or full-color scans. Try lowering the resolution (e.g., 300 dpi) or scanning in grayscale for text-only documents.
Q: How do I fix slow scanning?
A: Slow performance may be caused by very high resolution or certain drivers. Try scanning at a lower resolution or switching to a different driver type (WIA, TWAIN, or ESCL).
